WETLAND & WATERS DELINEATION
$1200
The 5-day course will focus on identification and delineation of waters (wetlands, rivers, tributaries, and open waters) that are regulated under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act. The course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge and technical skills to identify and delineate boundaries of wetlands and other potential jurisdictional waters of the US, as defined by USACE guidance and the 1987 Wetland Delineation Manual (Manual) and the respective Regional Supplement. In addition, a US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) representative is invited to discuss jurisdictional determinations, current issues, and discuss the basics of USACE regulatory system.
Students will be provided with tools to identify field indicators for wetlands (hydrophytic vegetation, hydric soils, and hydrology) as described in the Manual and the respective Regional Supplement, as well as how to identify other potential jurisdictional waters. Students will learn how to correctly document information about jurisdictional waters in the field, and the format required when submitting information to the USACE for jurisdictional determinations. An introduction to USACE permitting will also be provided.
Participants will be provided with a reference manual (class notes, the USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and respective Regional Supplement, guidance on identification of OHWM’s, references, permitting basics, etc.), regional plant list, NRCS Field Indicators of Hydric Soils (version 6.0), and a certificate of completion. |
